Tumbeta House

Opened in February 2020, Tumbeta House is the newest of Djuma’s lodges and represents the ultimate exclusive safari experience, designed for absolute intimacy and total seclusion, far from the madding crowd.

It is the home of owner Jurie Moolman’s sister, Inge, and has been lovingly refurbished to offer the ultimate African safari retreat, accommodating just six people – making it ideal for small groups of friends or families.

Set in its own private fenced and beautifully landscaped compound a short drive from Vuyatela Lodge and Galago Camp, Tumbeta House is the embodiment of Jurie and his wife Pippa’s vision of an African retreat, where life slows to a snail’s pace allowing guests the rare and highly sought-after privilege of experiencing complete immersion in their wild surroundings and total disconnect from the outside world.

Tumbeta means “secluded hideaway” in the local vernacular of the Shangaan people, which is fitting because here you become part of the environment, watching the passage of time from the comfort of a shaded verandah, experiencing the thrill of sleeping out under the velvet canopy of the African night, glittering with infinite stars, viewing game in a unique and fascinating way at the eye-level hide… Adjusting to a wonderful new rhythm from sunrise to sunset each day.

Enveloped by the African wilderness with stunning views out over one of the most exceptionally game-rich areas in South Africa, Tumbeta House accommodates just six people in three beautiful, luxuriously appointed en-suite guest rooms.

As with Djuma’s other lodges – Vuyatela and Galago – Tumbeta House’s look and feel is inspired by a unique fusion of traditional, retro and modern design, thanks to Pippa Moolman’s occasionally quirky but always on-trend artistic flair and amazing mosaic work. The result is a wonderfully relaxed vibe that encourages guests to put their feet up and enjoy a real home-from-home experience with all the luxurious finishing touches you’d expect from a globally recognised safari brand.
