This is an ongoing series of monthly feature articles telling the story of Djuma and its amazing people, past and present, designed to help celebrate a unique legacy stretching back more than a quarter of a century…

Writing and photographs by Sharon Gilbert-Rivett

Since its beginnings in 1993, Djuma and its owners, Jurie and Pippa Moolman, have together made an incredible, positive impact on the people they work with, both at a lodge level and out in the communities on the periphery of the game reserve.

In 2019 it was decided to start documenting the ways in which this impact has changed lives and moulded a legacy Djuma can be truly proud of.

Working with local writer Sharon Gilbert-Rivett, the resulting series of feature articles maps the story of Djuma and its amazing people, past and present and demonstrates what an incredible and powerful tool for change tourism can be. At the same time, these articles encapsulate and celebrate everything that makes Djuma so unique and special.

We are delighted to share them here with you.

These, then, are the “people of Djuma”…
