Hi Everybody

Things are progressing very well hear at Djuma and everybody is excited, because we will officially open the lodge again at the end of March to share our piece of paradise with our visitor.  I had a friend(Eugene) come and visit the lodge and was great showing him all the changes and the renovations. Think he was well impressed with how amazing everything has turned out.

I took him on a ”bumble” one afternoon. Now a ”bumble” is basically when friends drive around the property and hopefully see something, because you are not accompanied by a professional ranger you hope for the best.

For the first 30 minutes we did enjoy the nature, but the closes we got to animals was a couple of warthogs. So we decided to drive up Buffelshoek cut-line and saw some wildebeest and impala.

Then something interesting, on the same road we found three Zebra’s. Now the interesting part is that 2 on the outside was facing in one direction while the one in the middle was facing the opposite direction. See photo to follow, very amusing.

After seeing some animals and really enjoying the drive we decided to head home. On the way back we saw a vehicle from another lodge and they were all looking in the direction of another herd of impala. The radio came on and the Ranger from the vehicle clearly seeing us on the other side invited us to the sighting, when we pulled up to my amazement it was a wild dog getting ready for a kill!!

You could have cut the tension with a knife as the wild dog was slowly stalking its pray. Everybody was very quiet as the wild dog is getting closer and closer to the herd of Impala that is not suspecting a thing.

Then like a bolt of lightning the wild dog starts running after the Impala, but no luck for the wild dog. The herd scattered and all got away from the infamous dogs. Just another day in Africa.

I hope everybody enjoyed the short blog and have a great day. Thanks to Eugene for providing the photos from the drive.

Kind Regards

Jaco Wentzel

Jaco and Eugene – thank you so much for this update. We really enjoy hearing how everything is going. And your describing the sightings makes us feel a little better, and allow us to still feel a part of things. We miss the drives and the people involved very much so every blog entry is a bonus for us. Thank you!! Good Luck with the Grand Re-Opening, and we look forward to the next entry here.

What a wonderful surprise to open my mail and find your post! I’m very glad you still keep in touch with us like you do… but I must say that my heart is still so heavy that WE has done so much only to be taken down by the terrible storms and lack of financial support. What WE did for the world, the great effort everyone there displayed every day, to bring your wild and exciting land to us has left us with big holes in our lives; holes that only WE can fill. I know the discouragement you must feel… believe me, we feel it too! I have been with you almost from the beginning and not being able to connect to WE and just listen to Africa through the day always leaves me feeling empty. I truly hope that you guys will find a way to come back to us, even a drive a week would be better than nothing…. Here’s hoping that God brings you the finances you need to restore WE to us… we need you! Many hugs and best wishes to you all! and if you run across Marc & Tara tell them we miss them terribly!

Wonderful to see the beautiful area again. I’m sure you both had a wonderful time. Eugene seems so enthusiastic and such fun. Thanks you for keeping in touch. I miss the drives so much. I just keep rewatching things and checking off animals on the checklist. It is so nice of you to write the blog.

    Dear Jaco and Eugene,
Thanks so much for the update. How wonderful to go along with you on your “bumble”. New word to add to my vocabulary. Wonder if in the future you can write about the new and improved lodge and how that will be working as a self catering lodge for us Non- Africans.
Loved the photos and the wild dog sighting. Of course I love the imps and zebras, too!
Have a great week. Take care, Diane

@ Diane. The next blog will be about Galago & Vuyatela as a self catering lodge.

Thanks to everybody that enjoyed the read.

Eugene! How are you? So good to know that you and Jaco had your exciting “bumble” through our beauful Djuma. I miss it as much as I miss my hometown. There is a litttle pain in the rememberance, but at least there is something there to keep us connected.
    Thanks, guys.
