BURCHELL'S
ZEBRA Equus burchelli They feed on coarse grasses and have been known to dig for roots and bulbs. Males have four more teeth showing in the mouth than the females. Zebra flee predators by running away in a group, the stripes are thought to confuse predators and make it hard for one animal to be singled out. Stallions and sons have very close relations and are never forced to leave the fathers harem. Each animal has a unique stripe pattern and may
recognise each other from this. Females will give birth to 1 young after
a gestation of 1 year. |
