WARTHOG
Phacochoerus aethiopicus They are omnivores eating grass and seeds, fruit and bulbs, which they dig up. There are records of them feeding on carrion when food is scarce. They will have 1-15 burrows within their territories, usually found in termite mounds. They have been recorded to share these with hyena. They will spend their entire life within these areas and are said to choose death before leaving their area. They are the most commonly seen pig in the bush. They can run at 40 kph. Females will give birth to 1-8 young after a gestation period of 3 months. |
