Giant Raisin Grewia

- This is a small evergreen tree, which grows
upto 6m.
- They can be found from Tanzania to Kwazulu-Natal,
growing on rocky slopes and drainage lines in warm low-lying areas.
- The flowers smell like honey and are yellow
inside, stamens forming a central mass in the flower and produced from
September to November.
- The fruit is divided into 2 halves, like a string
tied around the middle of a balloon and is produced between December
to June.
- Impala, steenbok, buffalo, giraffe, kudu, impala,
Duiker and elephant all feed on the leaves.
- The fruit is edible and an alcoholic beverage
is made from the fruit.
