Black Monkey-Thorn
Acacia burkei
- This is a deciduous tree, which grows up to
25m tall.
- The bark is dark brownish grey in colour.
- This tree grows on a variety of soils, in thornveld,
mixed woodland and rocky slopes and is found from south-eastern Zimbabwe
to Kwazulu-Natal.
- Duiker, impala, steenbok, giraffe and Nyala
feed on the leaves.
- The seeds are also very nutritious for game.
- The wood is used for furniture and is termite
resistant.
- The tree produces flowers from October to January
and fruits from December to May.
