Mongoose: Herpestes sanguineus

General:
- They can be found all over Southern Africa,
where there is suitable cover, they are not found in Namibia or Southern
Cape Province.
- They are a solitary animal, feeding mainly on
rodents, insects and occasionally reptiles,
- The male weigh between 523-789g, females between
373-565g.
- They are more than likely the most predacious
of the mongoose found in this area.
Breeding:
- A female gives birth to between 2-4 young after
a gestation of around 2 months.
Predators:
- They are more than likely taken by eagles, but
do not show any fear of snakes.
