In the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five" or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five" (the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.

PM
It was a very quiet morning game drive and there were more than five vehicles out looking around for some Elephant. By luck we come across the whole herd of them drinking some water at Jordan's dam. They had more than 6-7 new born babies and that made our whole morning game drive.
Such a beautiful female leopard called Karula, means peace, is about five years old lady, relaxed and also likes to be close to the game drive vehicle. We followed her while she was after some Impala. We spent almost 45 minutes with her while she was hunting, quiet and silent and also patient, she managed to take one of the impala lambs.
We were busy enjoying our quiet afternoon sundowner in one of our beautiful picnic spot. Suddenly while we were there the whole breeding herd of Elephant came walking past us very gently and also stop about a kilometer away. Some of them there were grazing around and some were having a sand bath. it was a great afternoon game drive.
Lion, one of the dominant males from Nkuhuma, was found at Buffelshoek airstrip, lying under the thicket knob thorn. He was relaxing from his fight with the Mapogo males, some other bad boys killing other lions into the area. They are bad news in this the area. We left him still lying down relaxing under the shade.

17 March
AM
It was very early morning as we prepared to go and see what was happening with the Nkuhuma male lion. He was still alive and also managed to find his own pride as they were feeding on the wildebeest kill. This also included some of the cubs. It was little bit sad because we found one of the cub was missing from the pride.
We spend almost three hours enjoying the special sighting,

PM
That was a great afternoon game drive. It was a little bit hot and we were driving around looking for zebras or any animals which may be out for us. We came across the same pride (Nkuhuma) lying at one of our big dams, all of them had full stomachs.
We were out on walking safari around 7AM. While we were out we came across ten Buffalo but we were about 20-40 meters away from them and also lucky we were on the downwind so they did not smell us. After 5-10 minutes the wind changed start blowing towards them. That was we driving them crazy, but we have got all the experience. We managed to escape very gently and also quietly. Buffalo the are very dangerous, but if you do respect them they also respect you back
