In the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five" or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five" (the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.
 

1 March
AM
- 5 Lionesses and 1 male with 7 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) were found lying down east of Cruise Camp
- A large herd of Buffalo were found south of Kudu Corner; moving west
- 3 Bulls elephant were found at Sandy patch; moving north

PM
- 5 Lionesses and 1 male with 7 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) were moving north towards the dam Cruse Camp drinking water
- 10 Buffalo bulls were found at Quarantine; moving south towards Philemon's dip
- A large herd of elephant was found south of Djuma dam; moving east

2 March
AM
- 5 males (Mapogo pride) were found at Sydney dam drinking water, they started moving across the boundary into the Manyeleti reserve
- 5 Bulls elephant were found Tree on the road pan moving south

PM
- 2 Rhino were found at Torchwood dam
- 3 Bulls were found Chitwa Cut line moving south

3 March
AM
- 3 Lionesses (Nkuhuma) with 7 cubs were found Green pan; moving north
- 3 female Rhinos and 1 male were found Sussen's dam; moving west

PM
- 3 Lionesses (Nkuhuma) with 7 cubs were found same place as this morning; lying down
- 3 males (Mapogo pride) on top of Sydney dam wall; lying down

- 4 March
AM
- 2 Rhino bulls were found south of Cheetah Plain pan
- 1 Bull elephant was found in Jacobin open area; moving south
- 4 Lionesses and 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) were found feeding on Buffalo carcass
- 5 male Lions (Mapogo pride) drinking water at Sidney's dam
- 1 female Leopard (Nkurula) killed an impala near Sandy patch north

PM
- 4 Lionesses and 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride); same place as this morning
- 5 males Lions (Mapogo pride); also same place as this morning
- 1 female Leopard was found at Three-in-Row pan; moving west


5 March
AM
- 5 male lions (Mapogo pride) were found moving south towards Sandy Patch
- 4 Lionesses and 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) at same place still feeding on Buffalo carcass

PM
- 4 Lionesses and 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) still feeding on Buffalo carcass
- 5 males (Mapogo pride); now to the north of Sandy patch

6 March
AM
- 1 female Leopard (Nkurula) was found at Gwarrie pan; moving south
- 1 female Lion (part of Nkuhuma pride) was found at Nyala dam

PM
- 5 Lionesses and 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride) finished their Buffalo kill and moved to the north; lying down at Cheetah pan
- 3 Rhinos were found Tree House Dam; drinking water
- A large herd of elephant north of Big Dam; moving east

7 March
AM
- 6 Lionesses and 1 male with 12 cubs (Nkuhuma pride ) were found south of Khaya Manzi camp
- 10 Buffalo bulls were found north of Tamboti dam; lying down
