In the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five" or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five" (the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.
 

15 November
PM
- One female Leopard crossing Abel's junction on Djuma central; heading towards Jacobin Lodge
- Ono male rhino drinking water at Guarrie pan

16 November
AM
- Four female lions, we called Styx pride, lying down western side of Rhino Walk inside Djuma
- One male leopard we called Ncila, lying on top of Brown Ivory tree; on rhino cut line
-Breeding herd buffalo lying down on Buffelshoek airstrip

PM
- Four female lions - Styx pride - same place from this morning's drive
- One male leopard we called Ncila, moved towards Green pan
- Three females, one male and one calf rhino on western side of Chitwa cut line - moving west

17 November
AM
- Two male Nkuhuma pride animals lying down Jordaan's dam
-One young male Leopard - Beacon female's son - crossing Gowrie main in to Torchwood on western side of Djuma new entrance
- Breeding herd of buffalo on eastern side of Sidney's dam
-One young female Leopard - Beacon female's son - on eastern side of Vrystaat clearing; lying on top of Marula tree

PM
- Four males buffalo drinking water at Three-in-a-row pan
- Breeding herd elephant north of Kudu Corner; animals grazing north towards Lion Pan in open area
- One bull rhino south of Milkberry Cutline - animal feeding
- Two male lions lying down Jordaan's dam - very relaxed
- One male Leopard we called Ncila; south of Lion Pan open area

18 November
AM
- One bull elephant north of Little Gowrie
-Two Nkuhuma male lions; lying down western side of Zoë's road
- One young male - Beacon female's son - crossing Gowrie main from western side of Djuma new entrance

PM
-1 female leopard found at Cheetah Plain pan.
-2 male lions found just west of Zoë's road.
-a small breeding herd of elephants moving west from Philemon's Cutline.
- a large breeding herd of buffalo west of Tree House dam.

19 November
AM
- 4 male rhino found at torch wood dam.
- 4 male buffalo found lying up on Quarantine.
- 1 male elephant found on Vuyatela driveway

PM
- 1 male rhino found at Three in a row pan.
- 2 male elephants found at Buffelshoek dam.

20 November
AM
- 1 male leopard found just east of cheetah cut line.
- 4 female lions found at cheetah plain pan.
- 5 male buffalo found drinking at Buffelshoek dam.
- 1 male elephant found on Djuma new entrance.
