AM
1 Male Leopard, (Ncila) was found lying down at Djuma Dam.
-5 Lionesses, (Styx Pride) were found moving south from 3 pans
along the Mashipiri riverbed and eventually crossed the boundary
towards the south.
-A group of 6 Rhinos were found at Philemon's dip.
- 5 Elephant bulls were found moving north along the main rd towards
the gate.
PM
-1 Male Leopard, (Ncila) was found again this afternoon, this
time he was on Greenthorn Rd moving south.
-1 Male Leopard, (Mafufanyane) was found on Philemon's Cutline
moving south. He was scent marking his territory and eventually
crossed the boundary towards the south of Tree-House dam.
-A breeding herd of Buffalo were found at Jacobin waterhole.
-1 Elephant bull was found on Weaver's Nest Rd.
-3 Rhinos were found South of Quarantine open area moving south.
2 August
AM
-A large herd of Buffalo were found on the southern side of Rhino
Pan. Whilst watching the herd, it was noticed that a few of the
Buffalo at the back of the herd were acting very anxious. We drove
in the direction that the buffaloes were looking, where we found
a Male Leopard watching the herd. The male Leopard was Ncila,
who moved off after watching the herd for a short while.
-1 Female Leopard, (Kurula) was found at Spaghetti Junction, with
her 2 cubs. She had killed 2 Nyalas, a juvenile and a sub-adult
male. The Leopards took it in turn to feed on the kill which had
been stashed under the cover of a bush willow tree.
-1 Lioness was found feeding on a Warthog she had dug out of a
hole during the night.
-1 Male Leopard, (Jordaan's Male) was found feeding on the remains
of a juvenile warthog.
PM
-We returned to spaghetti junction to the kill sight of the Kurula
female Leopard. Just before dark, she dragged the larger of the
two carcasses to the base of a nearby tree and hoisted it into
the upper branches. She returned to the smaller carcass and dragged
it to another tree, further down the riverbed and chose a Marula
tree to hoist the kill. Her timing was excellent, because only
10 minutes later 2 Hyenas appeared.
-2 Male Lions and 6 Lionesses, (Nkuhuma Pride) were found on the
Vuyatela entrance road resting.
-A breeding herd of Elephants was found at Buffelshoek dam.
-1 Lioness was found still feeding on her Kill.
3 August
AM
-3 Rhino bulls were found grazing on Impala Plains.
-4 Elephant bulls were found drinking at 3 pans.
-Buffalo bulls were found all over the reserve.
-1 Female Leopard and her 2 cubs were found feeding on the Nyala
carcass at Spaghetti Junction.
PM
-A breeding herd of Buffalo were found at Torchwood waterhole
-The Kurula female and her 2 cubs were found still feeding on
their kill.
-A rare sighting of an Aardvark was had on Mamba Rd.
4 August
AM
-The Kurula female and 1 of her cubs was found at the kill sight.
Overnight a young male Leopard (Son of the Beacon Female) had
moved onto the kill and stolen the kill from the 3 leopards. There
was no sign of the young female cub.
-5 Elephant bulls were found on Twin dams Rd.
-3 Rhino bulls were found on Rebecca's Rd.
PM
-1 Lioness (Sandy Patch female) was found at Kudu corner moving
south. She was looking well fed and in good condition.
5 August
AM
-5 Lionesses and 4 cubs (Nkuhuma Pride) were found at Nyala Dam
resting.
-A herd of Buffalo were found in the Lion Cage area.
PM
-2 Male Lions, 5 Lionesses and 4 cubs (Nkuhuma Pride), were found
resting close to Nyala Dam.
-A herd of Buffalo were found west of Nyala Dam.
-2 Elephant bulls were found at Bush Lodge.
6 August
AM
-5 Lionesses and 2 Male Lions were found, west of Khaya Manzi
resting.
-1 Female Leopard (Kurula) and 1 cub were found near Buffelshoek
dam moving west.
-3 Elephant bulls were found on the eastern side of Bush Lodge.
-3 Rhino bulls were found at Vuyatela dam.
