In the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five" or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five" (the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.
 

23 April
AM
-1 Female Leopard (Safari) was found lying on a termite mound on Philemon's Cutline.
-9 Buffalo bulls were found drinking at Buffelshoek dam.

PM
-3 Elephant bulls were found drinking at Buffelshoek Dam.
-9 Buffalo bulls were found at Jordaan's Dam.
-3 Rhino Bulls were found near Nyala Dam.

24 April
AM
-2 Male Cheetahs were found on the western side on the quarantine open area walking southwards.
-4 Elephant Bulls were found feeding close to Green Pan.

27 April
PM
-1 Rhino bull was found at 1st Rock.
-The White Cloth Female and her cub were found at Torchwood Dam. They moved northwards along the riverbed towards the Buffelshoek Boundary.
-Elephant Bulls were found all over the reserve.

28 April
AM
-A Lion and Lioness from the Nkuhuma pride were found on the Manyeleti boundary mating.
-A female Cheetah was found feeding on a juvenile Kudu near Mondzo pan.
There were 5 nursery herds of Elephant found at different locations around the reserve.

PM
-The 7 Styx pride females were found sleeping on 1st rock. They moved towards Torchwood and stalked a lone Waterbuck. They were unsuccessful and were left heading southwards towards the Main Rd.

29 April
AM
-The 7 Females from the Styx Pride were found lying down near the Kaalkol open area.
-1 Female Leopard (Karula) was found on Cheetah Cutline with an adult Impala ram she had killed. Her cubs were with her but before long a Hyena moved in and chased the Leopards from there kill. The cubs raced up a nearby tree and the female made a few attempts and stealing her kill back. The Hyena fed for some time before strangely moving off. The Leopard took this chance to drag the kill away from the scene and hoist it into a Marula tree for her and the cubs to feed in safety.

PM
-The Karula female Leopard and her 2 cubs were still feeding on the Impala kill.
-3 Rhinos were found near Big Dam.
-An Elephant Bull was found at Big Dam.
-The 7 female Lions from the Styx pride were found stalking Wildebeest on the Kaalkol open are but after an unsuccessful attempt were left heading southwards towards Cheetah Plains.

30 April
AM
-1 Big Male Lion (Nkuhuma Pride) was found drinking at Bushbuck Dam.
-The Karula Female Leopard was found feeding on her Impala kill near Cheetah Cutline. Her cubs were not seen at the kill sight at first. She later moved west for about 500 meters where she had hidden her cubs in a termite mound. She lead them back to the kill and they began to feed/.
-The Beacon Female was found at Nyala dam with her cub. They moved southwards away from the dam along the donga and both looked to be well fed and in a playful mood.
-The Newington male Leopard was found on the main road resting under a Jackalberry tree. He was still full from his kill the evening before.
