In
the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five"
or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular
animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant,
rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five"
(the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote
the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately
the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.

AM
-1 Leopard and 1 Cub (Whitecloth) were found at Rhino Walk Up
Road, feeding on Duiker and Impala killed the previous day.
-10 Lions, 7 females and 3 cubs (Styx Pride) were seen on Cheetah
Plains - Still feeding on Buffalo kill.
-4 Lions, Females and cubs (Sandy Patch) were found feeding on
Zebra Kill on the western side of Hardekool Camp

-3 Lions, 1 female 2 males (Buffelshoek Pride) seen at Cruise
Camp Dam - Moving towards the north roaring.
-2 Cheetah males seen at Hyena dam - moving towards Kruger National
Park corner.
-10 Lions (Styx Pride) seen at Cheetah Plains - Still feeding
on kill.
-2 Rhinos mother and calf, North of Big Dam in Manyaleti
-1 Elephant Bull was seen at Khaya Manzi Dam - Drinking.
23 November
AM
-2 male Lions (Rollercoaster Males) North of Cheetah Plains -
sleeping on the Kruger Boundry.
-2 Leopards (Whitecloth and cub) North of Rock Clearing - Feeding
on saplings.
-3 Hyena, 2 females and 1 cub - moved den to the Rock Bridge east
of 1st Rock.
PM
-1 Leopard (Ncila male) was at Djuma Bush Lodge - moving Eastwards
towards the Fig Tree. Wound on hind quarter is healing well.
-2 Lions (Rollercoaster Males) were at Buffalo Dam - Scent marking
and roaring. These magnificent males moved south across the reserve
boundary.
24 November
AM
-Rhino bull seen at Mondzo Pan - Feeding west.
PM
-Elephant South of Buffelshoek Dam - Feeding.
-3 Lions (Buffelshoek Pride) - Drinking and lying down.
-Breeding Herd of Elephant East of Buffelshoek Dam - moving south.
25 November
PM
-2 Lions (Robson males) seen at 1st Rock - getting active and
moving west toward Torchwood Camp. Stopped and located a female
Leopard (Whitecloth) at Torchwood Dam.
-2 Leopards (Whitecloth and cub) at Torchwood Dam - Cub was chased
up a tree by hyena but Whitecloth stood her ground - snarling
and hissing.
-5 Lions (Buffelshoek Pride) at Vuyatela Dam - Sleeping.
26 November
AM
-2 Leopards (Whitecloth and cub) Seen east of Torchwood camp -
Feeding on Duiker.
-1 Buffalo Bull seen at Gowrie Farm
-3 Buffalo Bulls at Gowrie Farm
-8 Buffalo Bulls at Gowrie Farm

-2 Leopards (Whitecloth and cub) was seen east of Torchwood -
finishing the kill cub was practicing hoisting and balancing duiker
head.
27 November

-5 Elephant Bulls south east of the reserve.
-Breeding herd of Elephant they were south of 3 Pan - feeding
North east
-3 Lions (Buffelshoek Pride) at Jordaan's Dam - Lying down.
PM
-2 Lions (Rollercoaster males) seen at Weavers Nest Road - not
very active, were found sleeping, grooming. Tracks next morning
suggest Lions moving south.
28 November
AM
-2 Cheetahs seen at Kudu Corner drinking and then moved towards
Buffalo Dam - chasing Impala with no Luck and eventually killed
a Steenbok, Cheetahs chased off by Vultures.
PM
-7 Buffalo Bulls seen at Cheetah Plain Pans.
-Breeding Herd of Elephant at Cheetah Plain Pan - Drinking
29 November
AM
-1 Bull Elephant was at Buffelshoek sign - Feeding.
-1 Rhino Bull seen at Tamboti Dam - Drinking and moved off.
-2 Cheetah males seen at Cheetah Plains east - Calling possibly
to get female.
PM
-1 Lioness (Sandy patch Female) at Vuyatela Dam - Moved east towards
to Nyala Dam and eventually lead us to straight to 2 cubs in the
Dolerite river bed.
-1 Bull Elephant seen at Kudu corner - grazing on long grass.
-Breeding herd of Buffalo north of Kudu Corner - moving slowing
into Kruger National Park.
30 November
AM
-2 Male Lions (Robson's) Piet's Roads - sleeping.
-3 Bull Elephants seen west of Nkorho - Feeding slowing towards
Jacobin's clearing.
-2 Buffalo Bulls at Bush Lodge - sleeping
