In the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five" or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five" (the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.
 

11 August
AM
One leopard (Newington male) was found at Kudu Corner heading east.
Eight bull buffalos were found just south of Kudu Corner. They were heading north.
I male rhino was spotted just north of Cruise camp. He was heading east into the Kruger.
White Cloth's cub (male leopard) was found on the east side of Torchwood Dam. He was lying down and seemed very relaxed.
A breeding herd of buffalo was seen moving south just south of Cheetah Pan.

PM
White Cloth and her cub (leopards) were seen eating a grey duiker just north of Torchwood.
Four lionesses from the Styx Pride were found just east of Djuma Old Driveway. They were hunting through and successfully killed an adult male kudu.
One bull elephant was found just north of Cheetah Pan eating.
One leopard (Jordaan's male) was found on Gowrie Main close to Djuma New Driveway. He was moving south into Chitwa.

12 August
AM
Eight buffalo bulls were found at Kudu Corner. They were drinking at the dam.
Four lionesses from the Styx Pride were seen at Djuma Old Entrance eating on the kudu they had killed last night.
Three lionesses also from the Styx Pride were found on Central Road east of Vuyatela. They were moving south.
White Cloth and her cub (leopards) were found on the fire break south of Cheetah Pan. The female was hunting and the cub was following close behind.
Two elephant bulls were seen heading north just east of Rhino cutline close to the boundary.

PM
Two buffalo bulls were found drinking at Torchwood Dam.
White Cloth (a female leopard) was seen on Pipeline road just north of Torchwood camp. She was laying down.
Three lionesses from the Styx Pride were seen on Pipeline road just west of 1st rock. They were also laying down.
One male rhino (Short Horn) was seen moving west just west of the airstrip.

13 August
AM
Two leopards (White Cloth and her cub) were seen in a tree west of Marula Pan.
Four lionesses from the Styx Pride were found at Rhino Pan. They were moving south into Chitwa.
Two male rhinos were found east of rhino cutline just east of 2nd rock. They were moving east.
Four buffalo bulls were seen at Buffelshoek Dam moving slowly west.

PM
The Manyeleti Pride (1 lioness and 3 males) were found lying down just west of Chela.
One male leopard (Beacon female's cub) was found heading north just north of Buffelshoek Dam.
Two old buffalo bulls were seen drinking at Buffelshoek Dam.
One female rhino with her young calf (about 1 month old) were found just east of 1st rock and they were heading east.
An elephant died in Nkorho clearing today. We're not sure what it died of. The Old Eastern male lion was there and had ripped open the stomach and was eating on the trunk.

14 August
AM
The Manyeleti Pride of lions (3 males and 1 female) was found in Nkorho clearing. They had chased the Old Eastern male away and were eating on the elephant. A hyena was hanging around close to the clearing and vultures had landed in the trees nearby.
Two elephant bulls were found on Central Road in Djuma close to Pipeline Road. They were feeding.
Two leopards (White Cloth and her cub) were found in a Marula tree just next to Pipeline Road. They jumped down and west along Pipeline Road to Cheetah cutline.
One male rhino was seen heading north along Euphorbia Road into a drainage line.
Eight buffalo bulls were found lying down just west of Champagne Pan.

PM
The Manyeleti Pride of lions (3 males and 1 female) was still with the elephant carcass in Nkorho clearing. They were lying down near the meat.
Two bull elephants came into Nkorho clearing and were seen next to the dead elephant sniffing around it.
One leopard (White Cloth, female) was seen in a Marula tree just south of Pipeline Road and east of Cheetah cutline.
One female rhino and three young males were seen on Mamba Road heading slowly south.
Eight old buffalo bulls were found laying down east of Big Dam.

15 August
AM
The Manyeleti Pride of lions was seen at Bushbuck Dam moving into Manyeleti. They had left the elephant carcass; the meat was not to their liking. The carcass was surrounded by hyenas and there were plenty of vultures in the trees surrounding Nkorho clearing.
A breeding herd of buffalo was found heading north along Galago Shortcut. Another herd was seen just east of Big Dam just inside the Kruger.
Three elephant bulls were found at the Manyeleti boundary heading west towards Big Dam
Nine buffalo bulls were found on the Manyeleti boundary on the eastern side of Big Dam, they were feeding.
