In
the Ranger's Diary we tend to concentrate on the "Big Five"
or rather the "Big Seven" since these are the most popular
animals. The "Big Seven" includes lion, leopard, elephant,
rhino, buffalo, cheetah and wild dog. The term "Big Five"
(the first five animals listed) was historically used to denote
the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa. Fortunately
the term is now used to describe the most popular animals.

PM
2 buffalo bulls were found relaxed at Sussen's Dam.
2 elephant bulls were drinking together at Nyala Dam.
At the hyena den at Cheetah Cutline one of the cubs was seen.
13 June
AM
One adult hyena & 2 cubs were laying outside the den at Cheetah
Cutline.
5 lions were at Bush Buck Dam (the 4 collar pride lions &
one lioness from the Sandy Patch pride). The largest of the 3
Collar Pride males was mating with the Sandy Patch lioness.
16 June
PM
One female cheetah & her 1 year old son were sleeping at North
Rock Road.
Beacon female leopard was found at Cobus Dam feeding on a fresh
duiker kill.
An aardvark was also seen on Lucas' Open Area which was a great
treat!
17 June
AM
The female cheetah & her cub were still on North Rock Road.
They were watched as they woke up & began to play around,
the cub trying his luck at tree-climbing.
White Cloth female's 2 cubs were found at the Mluwanini river.
Beacon female (leopard) was seen at Cobus Dam. She was dragging
a kill into the thick bush.
A female rhino & her calf were moving east from the Kruger
Manyeleti corner.
A Serval was also spotted.
PM
The cheetah pair (female + cub) was still together at North Rock
Clearing, sleeping.
A breeding herd of elephant was found at Terminalia Clearing.
At the hyena den on Cheetah Cutline 4 adult hyena + 2 cubs were
seen together.
3 reedbuck were grazing on Cheetah Plain Pan.
An African wild cat was seen foraging.
