NYALA Tragelaphus angasiinyala.jpg (44303 bytes)

They are a close relative of the Kudu.  The Nyala is a grazer and a browser, eating fruit and pods.  Males use white ridges of long hair on their backs to display to each other, whilst slowly circling one another, with fights seldom becoming physical. Young males look like females.   Mothers and female offspring seem to remain in association with each other for long periods, possibly for life.  A female will have 1 young after a gestation of about 7 months. .
