Dear Kim
and all at the Bush Lodge, |
|||
| Hi
Kim I've been meaning to e-mail for ages following our visit to Bush Lodge in late March 06 and, as always seems to be the case, something gets in the way. We have however been delighted to get the regular newsletters that come through each month which always bring back a little smile and great memories of our time with you and the team there. You might remember that when we stayed it was just before Jane's birthday (in fact we landed home on the day) and you very kindly arranged a cake for her at afternoon tea and then some bubbly for the sundowner - Jane was thrilled and it will always be a unique birthday memory. We enjoyed our time so much there that shortly after we got home to England, and on 1st May became 'proud' owners of a chocolate Labrador puppy, we decided to name him Djuma! We couldn't decide on a name and thought it would be a great reminder - although it has raised many questions when out walking him as you can imagine. It was also great to hear your own news - congratulations to you and Chris. Jane is now expecting and due on 1st April - although I think we might go for something a little more conventional when naming our baby! Hope 2007 is a great year for Djuma and Bush Lodge and we hope to return sometime in the future. Give our best to Chris and the rest of the team, especially Maurice and Patrick. Best regards Francis & Jane (oh and not forgetting Djuma!!!!) UK March 2006 |

| Here's
wishing you all at Djuma (especially Bush Lodge ) our very best wishes
for the New Year and throughout 2007. We enjoy reading the Drumbeat-News, you are always having exciting things to tell us, the pictures are great, it reminds us of the special time we had at Bush Lodge back in Oct.2005. Special congratulations to Kim and Chris, we were delighted to read that you had 'tied the knot'.May your life together continue to be joyful and full of treasured memories. We look forward to seeing you again one day, I'm hoping that we can visit Djuma in March 2008 and celebrate our ruby wedding at the Lodge. best wishes from Ruth and Ted Fenton, in cold and damp England. |

| Hi
Charmian Just a quick one as we didn't have time to fill in the visitors book. Thank you so much for a fabulous week at Galago. I can't begin to explain how much we enjoyed ourselves and what a perfect place Galago is for the ideal bush holiday. The accommodation and the staff were all excellent and Rexon and William were simply fantastic. We really feel that we have found one of those very rare gems in Galago and cannot wait to be back. For us it was the ideal way of showing our overseas friends the African bush whilst enjoying ourselves as South Africans just as much. The game viewing, birdlife and bush lessons were all fantastic with incredible big and small game sightings on a daily basis. Galago not only makes visiting a premier private game reserve more affordable .. in our mind it is also provides the perfect way of doing it. Thank you thank you thank you for everyone who made our trip so special. Charmian - sorry we didn't get to meet you but will be in touch very soon for future bookings. We've seen a lot of wildlife ( big 5!!), We were amazed by the beauty of the lodges ( especially Vuyatela, which is absolutely a dream), we loved the warm and friendly staff!! I have made some magnificent pictures of the wildlife, nature and sunsets. So if you would like some, I'd be happy to send some. Thanks once again!! Liesbeth & Maddy South Africa December 2006 |

Hi Kim
and Chris and all at Bush Lodge |
|||
| Dear
Charmian This is to thank you for your arrangements that made it possible for us to spend some glorious days at Vuyatela. We love experiencing nature and in particular wildlife, so this was an absolutely wonderful experience for us. Our ranger, Charles, was really good at sharing his knowledge and showing us some wonderful sightings. Now we really look forward to visiting Galago next year (to come and find the elusive leopard). Kind regards Delene South Africa November 2006 |

I just
want to say thank you for all the help you gave us to a great safari
experience. Everything worked like a charm (even the rescheduling of
some of our flights). |

| Hi
Pippa, I figured I would go "off-line" with this email to you and share my views regarding our visit to the Vuyatela on 1-4 October. First, let me start right off by saying that my Group of six had an absolutely fantastic experience. The accommodations were wonderful, the food was fabulous, the staff was friendly, courteous and always helpful, and, most importantly, our Guide, Graham, was superb. Our visit began somewhat harried as there was a brush fire rapidly approaching the airstrip. Graham and an assistant met us in the "back up" vehicles since the 4x4s were out fighting the fire. While a bit hectic, we were well taken care of and transported to the lodge without incident. Our game drives were rewarded with wonderful viewings of elephants, rhino, giraffe, zebra, kudu, waterbuck, impala, hippo, mongoose, honey badger (!), and buffalo. We were pleased to have a leopard and cub waiting for us at our very first stop on our very first drive. Naturally, instead of a break, we watched the beautiful mother and offspring for quite some time. We also enjoyed time with the hyena at the den. The pups helped out by constantly poking their heads out to watch us as much as we watched them. Graham also made sure that we tagged up with other vehicles to follow a couple of male lions and one lioness for a fun night-time trip through the bush. Warren, our tracker, was also a joy to have along with our drives. Graham was quite kind to provide a couple of his own personal photos of the leopard to my wife Marilyn. She just loves leopards and to have those photos will be another special memory of our stay in Djuma. We also had the pleasure of accompanying James to his village. We enjoyed the trip and found it enlightening and educational. I was very pleased to see the cooperative efforts put forth by Djuma in working so closely with and supporting the local communities (pre-school funding). One hope of mine was that my safari expenses would provide some benefit to the local communities to encourage them to conserve, protect and even defend the wildlife and their environment. It's obvious that Djuma recognizes the need to provide benefits to the local communities and work cooperatively with them. We took advantage of your gym during two of our days there and also used your internet library. I'm grateful you had both of those "extras" available for us, especially to let friends and family hear about the great initial experiences we had at Djuma. Since my wife and I are vegetarians, we really appreciated the great alternative choices available in the dining room. By the way, I noticed that the ellie with the skewed tusk made a visit to the water hole and was captured on the web cam. Graham brought us up close to this wonderful creature and introduced him as "Twisted", in recognition of that tusk. The poor guy may have some physical challenges, but he seems to do well there. Graham's love for all those elephants and the leopards in the reserve was so obvious - he's quite passionate about them (we loved it!). Give Graham and Warren a "hello" from all of us. We've tasted Africa and can't imagine not returning. Perhaps we'll see you on our next visit. Ken & Marilyn USA October 2006 |
|||
| Warren... Please pass on our thanks to everyone from your team that we met at Vuyatela during our stay there. I'm afraid we didn't fill in the questionnaire but I can tell you that both Charles and Handry were excellent in their roles as driver and tracker. We were both really impressed with their knowledge of the huge variety of wildlife as well as their ability to spot things of interest, even in the dark! We have many photographs to remind us of our short stay and although we missed out on the 'big 5' (the elephants were hiding) this was more than compensated for. Watching a leopard eating it's kill up a tree plus the unexpected opportunity to observe a cheetah resting in the morning sunshine were just two of the many highlights. Seeing an Eagle Owl was impressive too. The accommodation was very comfortable and we especially liked the outside shower. The food was very good as was the service that accompanied it. We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed meeting the other guests in such a comfortable environment. We just wish we'd been there for more than 2 nights! Anyway, thanks again and if there's any other feedback we can provide please let me know. Regards Chris & Sylvia USA October 2006 |

| The
safari was spectacular. Every aspect of the arrangements you made was close to perfect. Your South African counterparts met us at the plane and brought us to the Nelair desk. The Nelair flight was on time, the pilots professional and the flight smooth. Every aspect of Djuma Vuyatela was terrific. The staff was very helpful, the rangers knowledgeable and made the drives educational and fun. The rooms were clean and comfortable. While we were there, we met another couple of physicians from Maryland who booked with you. They flew in from the Mala Mala hotel. I think they liked the safari drives at Djuma better. In any event, thank you so much for putting together this package for us. It was a great experience for both Mandy and me. Best regards, Stan USA October 2006 |
|||
|
the staff was lovely, inviting and very friendly. The animal sightings
were extraordinary, I did see the "big 5" and then some. I couldn't
believe the amount of animals, but I could have done without seeing lions
eating an elephant, and cheetahs and a leopard dining on impalas. I had
to remind myself that is how it is, but it does seem everything wants
an impala for dinner! By the way, I did love the impalas...such beautiful
faces. I have already decided I will return to Africa next year, With heart felt regards, Al Reed USA October 2006 |

(et al) Just to thank you all for a wonderful few days. Chris and his team were wonders and we enjoyed every minute. Chris - when you apologised to us for the "lack" of game on one of the evening drives, you had to realise that I was standing by a water hole, watching the sun set, drinking a G & T, being watched by a buffalo and a hippopotamus in the "middle" of Africa - what was you apologising for! Your enthusiasm and concern for the wildlife rubbed off on to us and, although great to see the large game, it was the little things we began to appreciate. The food was great. Thanks for organising the braai and all the cakes! The housekeeping staff were great as well. The laundry service is one of those little things that can mean so much when living out of a suitcase. Anyone not mentioned - just a great bunch of friendly people that made the whole stay so easy and so enjoyable. Going through all the photos and video at the moment but will send a couple to you in due course One last word - FANTASTIC John & Audrey Greenoff Nick Livermore UK September 2006 |

| Chris,
I had a great time at the Bush Camp. You did a great job as guide and
host. I totally love the way you drive. Too bad you don't live in the
states, we might have to put you out there for some off-roading (usually
involves mud). How refreshing to see someone who gets live/work his passion. You clearly are gifted as a guide and I was so impressed with your knowledge of the animals, and plants and stars etc... We should all be so lucky to have a job we love like that. I wish you the best in your endeavors! Take care. p.s. Attached is the picture of the crusty old warthog we saw for your website. | Kim,
Just a quick note to say that I had a wonderful time at Djuma. From the game drives, to the atmosphere, to the food, it all was top notch. I was in need of some relaxation, and I certainly experienced it there. A woman I met on my way there, told me to "listen for the silence that is Africa." I believe I experienced it. I just wondered if you would mind sharing the recipes for the coconut chocolate tarts we had for high tea, and the chicken soup we had a dinner? I take clients to 5 star restaurants regularly on business and they don't have anything on your staff. Good stuff! Thanks again for a lovely time, I will tell my friends. Sincerely, Karen DeZearn USA September 2006 |

Out time
at Djuma was outstanding. The people there are extremely friendly and
we got up close to many animals. It exceeded all our expectations. The
food at Djuma was great and they were excellent with the children. |

| Hi
Marietjie, Hope you are well and enjoying the end of the winter. This email is long overdue and for that I apologise, but since returning from our travels things have been nothing short of manic!! WOW and THANK YOU, are the words that first come to mind after our days at Galago. After having stayed at Bush Lodge before and other lodges in the Sabi Sand, expectations are always high. As always though the Djuma team managed to supersede these without any effort!! Galago is simply a wonderful camp, and a little jewel that both my family and I do look forward to revisiting. The staff there, warm, kind, friendly and efficient made our stay that extra bit special. I always delight in my trips back to the bush, however as you all knew this one was to be extra important. When I planned the proposal I must admit I was nervous as to how things would pan out. However Rexon took charge of the situation immediately upon my arrival, and while being discreet, also ensured my mind was put at ease. I do not have words to explain how grateful I am to you all for your attention to detail in planning the 'breakfast in the bush'. I am not sure who was more surprised when I saw the layout, Jeanette or myself!! Thank you thank you thank you. It was incredible, and most importantly , she said yes!!! That was the start to what will no doubt be one of the most incredible days of both our lives. In that single day, we got engaged, saw the big 5 under our noses, and to top it all off watched that sensational kill of the lions taking out a buffalo again all in full view. A truly scary and awe inspiring moment. When we climbed off the vehicle at the end of the day, Rexon put out his hand to me and said ''The bush has blessed you both '' and I think he was right. Thank you to you all for absolutely everything, and please send all our regards to your superb team at Galago, with Rexon in the front line!! All the best, and I look forward to the next time, Mark Taylor UK July 2006 |

| Dear
Jimmy and all the staff at Djuma, The Patel family and friends are grateful to you all for making our stay at Djuma one of the highlights of our lives. It is always a pleasure to meet all the wonderful people of Djuma and hear the great stories and experiences they had. All the visitors at Djuma tend to become friends after one breakfast or dinner. Hansa is definitely missing her daily meals which are served on a silver plate by the smiling friends like Nonku, Shannon, Rain, Judith and all the others. Now I cannot do the same for her here at home because I don't even know how to cook. Please convey our best regards to all at Djuma and the other lodges (Rexson etc.) Once again our sincere thank you to all. Regards to the family. Chandu, Hansa, Mihir South Africa July 2006 |

Warren, My family and I wanted to write and let you, all the staff, Piet and Lots know what a wonderful time we had the the Vuyatela Lodge. It is a visit that we won't soon forget. The Kayas were large and comfortable. The food was outstanding. The lodge itself was beautiful and comfortable. We saw some amazing animals - more than we could have ever hoped for. What made the experience special were all the people at the Lodge. Everyone was friendly and made us feel at home. It was a vacation experience that truly made our visit to South Africa special. We will be recommending the Vuyatela to all our friends and family. Maybe, if we are fortunate we will pay the Vuyatela another visit as well. Thanks again for a spectacular visit! Hi Chris

| Dear
Char, Pippa, Jimmy, Graham, Shannon, Warren and everyone else! Hey all! Hope you are well and enjoying the beautiful weather (while I roast in 45 degrees!!) Just got back from India last nite. Couldn't wait to write to you guys. I am so enjoying telling everyone about your beautiful place!! The entire Djuma experience, from your beautiful resort with its breathtaking surroundings to the abilities and interests of your wonderful staff, made it a unique experience which will remain close to my heart. That you'll gave so much of yourselves in such a warm, loving and caring fashion, made me feel I was with my extended family. Made it all the more difficult to leave. So I'm back in Dubai back amongst all the madness and noise .and everything that comes with living in a city. Looking forward to my next visit. In the meanwhile, here are some pictures of Dubai. Will send more soon. PS: I have had a bit of experience as a tracker. (Graham can vouch for me! I hope!) So maybe I can get a job in case I decide to move there?? Lots and lots of love and hugs! Graham Many thanks to you and the others at Djuma for your superlative efforts to ensure that our stay with you was successful. We greatly enjoyed all of our visit to SA but our stay with you was particularly memorable. We have now returned to Ghana and I should like to extend an invitation to you to use our house as a base should you wish to visit the area on a bird watching expedition. With renewed thanks to you and the rest of the team. Best wishes Lorraine McColl Accra, Ghana June 2006 |

| Hi
Charmian Our trip has come and gone. My guests had a wonderful time and were thoroughly spoilt by all the staff at Vuyatela It was Doreen's first visit to a game reserve and she wants me to book again soon. Spending time with the cheetah (Female with male cub) was a rare treat and getting a good sighting of the young leopard siblings (White Cloth's?) was the cherry on the top. Please ask Warren to thank all his staff for making this a permanent memory in the Data Bank. Solly and James did their best to find lion but it was not to be. It was great to see William, Charles and Morris again. Regards Brian Atkinson South Africa June 2006 |
|||
| Graham,
You've probably given lots of tours since our group was with you (including the Helenator's group), so I'll remind you that I was at Vuyatela from June 3 to the 6th and the high point, for me, was when a leopard we followed for quite a while sat next to the car and looked me right in the eye. What a great, unexplainable, feeling. I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to the bush. Your passion for the animals and their habitat and for teaching your "students" is infectious. I've been back for over a week but my head is still there. I'm grateful I got my first course from the Damaging Director. You should know that I sang your praises to Africa Adventure Co. You were right, Botswana was a wonderful place. The fact that it's such a stable country says a lot about its people. My offer of a tour of New York City still stands. It's got some pretty great stuff too. Thanks again, Donna Kenton USA June 2006 |

Charmian, I am now back in the office and have just about sorted through my e-mails!! I just wanted to say a huge thank you for sorting out my accommodation at Vuyatela and I was very sorry to not have met you at the lodge. Please can you also pass on a huge thank you to all the staff that made our stay from comfortable and enjoyable, the game viewing was fantastic, the food was delicious and the lodge is stunning. Jimmy very kindly gave me the full tour and Djuma was looking great with its new thatch!! Many thanks again and here's to a successful second half to 2006! Kindest regards James UK May 2006 |

Incredibly,
it has been been 1 year since my visit to Djuma. Not a day goes by without
thinking about how wonderful it was to spend 5 nights at such a special
place. Now how can anyone say a day doesn't go by...well for me its
easy. My office and home are filled with the wonderful photographs I
had the opportunity to take. My favorite is of a pair of cheetahs during
the evening golden hours which I posted on the guest gallery. I have
gotten many compliments on that particular shot and its warmth brings
me back to Djuma time and again. What stands out with Djuma was not
only the opportunity to view spectacular wildlife but to interact with
such a great staff, , ecclectic guests and importantly NOT feel like
I was in a hotel. That last bit seems to be an issue with a couple of
other lodges in the Sabi Sand. The camp's intimacy and laid back nature
lends itself for a most relaxing experience which juxtaposes wonderfully
with the adrenaline rush of the game drives. |
|||
| Kim/Chris We have to write to say thanks for a really great time at Djuma safari Lodge. Your friendliness and the extra miles you went to in order to give us a great wildlife experience was outstanding. The quality of the guiding was the best we have experienced and the food, accommodation, staff and even the quality of the wine was faultless. We think we have stumbled onto a little gem so we will gladly recommend you to all and sundry and hope that we can visit you again with our other 2 sons (as well as Nick whom I am sure will not want to miss out). Thanks again, it was a real pleasure to meet you. Regards Colin and Jan UK May 2006 |

| Memories Hello Kim and Chris, Whilst reading through your website I always feel as though I have been transported back to your wonderful country, especially Djuma. The photo shots are really quite amazing, and it is so good that you have had a lot of rain. The bush looks lush and rich with vegetation, so different from when we visited at the end of October 2005. Our next visit will have to be at this time of the year. From reading Drumbeat and Ranger's diary it is great to hear that you have had much success with animal sightings, in particular all the young ones, it really sounds exciting and very rewarding. Creation, nature and the environment provide so much for us to enjoy, marvel and wonder at, the cycle of life from year to year is quite incredible. We have at great deal to be thankful for, and yes it does present darker times as well from which we lift ourselves. I will always feel it a privilege to have visited Bush Lodge and experienced a little of that cycle in your ' backyard '. We trust that Kim is enjoying her position as Lodge Manager we were really pleased to read of your ' promotion ' earlier in the year; no doubt you are well supported by Chris, Piet and all the Bush Lodge team. Hope that you both have enjoyed your off duty periods and that life together is all you would want it to be. Look after each other and keep safe. regards and best wishes Ruth and Ted. We would like you to know how much we enjoyed our stay at the Djuma Vuyatela Game Lodge thanks to the excellent service of the staff and as well as the facilities at the lodge. We are very happy to have seen the great many animals we had hoped to see. In addition, we are very impressed and also grateful that you personally drove us to Hoedspruit on 1 May 2006 so that we do not have to miss the connecting flight to Johannesburg. This has saved us a lot of inconvenience and we appreciate your efforts very much. Please send our regards also to Marietjie, who had also helped us to coordinate with the NelAir personnel regarding our flights. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Thank you. Ben Apologies for the delay in writing, but wanted to say a big thank you for arranging our honey moon, everything was just fantastic especially Djuma. Vuyatela Lodge was fantastic, the staff were just so friendly and would do anything to accommodate our requests - what an experience and what a fabulous Lodge. Did you arrange for us to be met at Jo'burg airport? She was great and took us through all the queues etc. Pelican Air what a great little airline! After leaving Djuma, just Liz and I in a 6 seater, the pilot took our luggage at Kruger airport and pushed our trolley through to departures - introduced us to check in staff, shook our hands and bade us farewell - what service!! Little touch's like that made the trip memorable Regards Doug and Liz UK April 2006 |

| Barbara, Sorry it has taken me a while to respond, things have been a bit hectic since we got home. Our vacation in RSA was WONDERFUL! Djuma was a perfect place. The people were very nice, the food was excellent, the accommodations were rustic, but clean and nice and the guide and tracker we had were fantastic. We sat amongst a pride of 10 lions that had just killed a Cape Buffalo and were eating it! The next morning we came across a leopard in a tree and then followed her through the bush for 45 minutes. We also went on a tour of one of the local villages with our tracker. The flights to/from were very good as well. The microbus was delivered on time and we had a wonderful drive through Krueger. We were amazed at the number and variety of animals we saw there as well; giraffe, rhinos, elephants, warthogs, baboons, hippos, kudu, water buck, impala, etc. Our children all said that this was their best vacation ever. It is one we will truely never forget. Thanks for all your help and assistance. BTW, we have provided your contact info to several friends here who are now thinking about vacations to RSA. Hope you get some more business out of them! Thanks again, Michael & Lois Krutz and Family April 2006 |

Kim, Chris, Julie and all staff at Bush Lodge, We started our fortnight's holiday in South Africa at Bush Lodge and we all agree that, despite the other really wonderful places we visited during our trip, Djuma was the highlight. The staff hospitality, the relaxed atmosphere, and the knowledge of the bush imparted by Chris, our Guide, was outstanding. The boys' favourite was the huge Baboon Spider, Miles agrees, Hope liked the chameleons but Helen's unbeatable moment was the rhino encounter! You have given us precious memories that will last a lifetime and we hope to visit you again some day, Regards from the Brough family; Miles, Helen, Joshua, Daniel and Hope, Gratwich England April 2006 |

| We
wanted to let you know that we had an excellent trip to South Africa!
We enjoyed Djuma and found the staff to be wonderful, accommodating and
talkative. They shared much about the area and culture and had many interesting
stories. They arranged a trip to a church on Easter Sunday and a tour
of the local village. Our tracker and guide were super. The staff was
excellent with children especially the manager, tracker & guide. We
enjoyed the helicopter ride over the canyon too. Sincerely, Mickie USA April 2006 |

Mark Thank you once again for the wonderful safari experience we had at Vuyatela Lodge on our recent holiday. You and your staff made us so very welcome, and the quality of everything at Vuyatela Lodge was of the very highest. I promised our guide Morris and our tracker James that I would send them prints of the photographs I took of them and their village, and I am posting these tomorrow via yourself. I imagine that the package will take some time to reach you, so in the meantime please do pass on our thanks once more to Morris and James for their care and skill in making our game drives so interesting and rewarding. | To
the Bush Lodge Staff: Kathi, Graham, and I would like to thank you for a absolutely marvelous stay at the Bush Lodge in mid-March 2006. Even though we completely enjoyed Cape Town and marveled at the Vic Falls, the safari at Djuma was the high light of our vacation. Chris and Abel were excellent guides and answered all of our questions. The food and lodging were excellent. All of the staff were attentive and friendly. Our son, Graham, was impressed and he is tough to impress. We hope to return in a few short years and in the meantime, we will tell all that they too should go to Africa, even for a few days. Thank you again. Bill, Kathi, and Graham O'Neill Phoenix, AZ USA March 2006 |

Hi Char
and all the team at Djuma, |
|||
| Hi
Liane, Piet and Abel, Happy New Year!! It is now 4 months since we visited you in September while on our honeymoon and we have spent much of the past few months reminiscing about our time at Bush Lodge. The safari part of our honeymoon was without doubt the highlight of our holiday and we have many fantastic photos of all the animals we saw. We of course particularly remember the incident where the four male lions attacked some buffalo (unsuccessfully) despite a lion being on the buffalo's back at one stage. We have enjoyed the ranger's diary account of this incident (September 10th pm) and others from the 6 drives we attended while on our trip. I attach a photo of the lion sharpening his claws after this attack - in preparation for round 2 I guess. Click here to view photograph We also enjoyed the village tour and having the opportunity to meet Abel's family. We hope things at the village are going well. Liane - you may remember us talking about London Zoo (as we live only half a mile away the zoo), and particularly about some of the animal sounds we hear. Since coming back from Africa, we have heard the lion at the zoo roaring many times and it brings back good memories. Thank you very much for your amazing hospitality on our trip, it really was a dream holiday. Many people since have asked us about safari and we have mentioned and recommended Djuma Bush Lodge and Rainbow Tours to every one of them. We know that if they do stay with you, they will have a great time. Best wishes, Tom & Louise UK September 2005 |
