Steppe Eagle Aquila nipalensis
This bird is a non-breeding palaeartic migrant to Southern Africa. These birds will breed from Eastern Europe and migrating to Southern Asia and Africa. In Southern Africa they feed mainly on termites, consuming upto 1000 termites per day, but do take other small mammals and reptiles as well. They have an unpredictable migration pattern, seeming to rely on rainfall. May gather in large flocks at termite eruptions. Feed mainly on termites consuming upto 2 000 per day and also raid Redbilled Quelea nesting colonies. |
