Pygmy Goose Nettapus auritus
They are mainly found in the wetter, eastern and northern regions of the country, living on quiet backwaters of pans, dams and lakes, with floating water vegetation. They are usually found in pairs, sometimes in small flocks and have been recorded in flocks of around 500 birds, but is not common. They are considered to be uncommon or rare within their range and have sporadic movement within the country. They feed on the seeds of the water lilies and other aquatic plants and water insects. |
