SCOPS
OWL Otus senegalensis They are a small owl which has a characteristic call, commonly heard at night. They call till at least 8 o'clock in the evening to advertise their presence to others and come down later in the evening to hunt. They are very well camouflaged, roosting against tree trunks, where they become almost invisible. Their main diet is insects but have been known to feed on small rodents and birds. They breed form June to December and nest in holes in trees and the incubation period is about 22 days.
