Little Egret Egretta garzetta
They belong to the family Ardeidae found in Southern Eurasia, Madagascar, Australia and most of Southern Africa. They are a fairly common bird and usually found alone, feeding, but at abundant food sources they may congregate in hundreds. They will actively chase prey in the water. They are normally found on the shores of marine and inland water bodies. They breed between September to March this area, with both sexes incubating, lasting from 21-27 days. The young can fly at about 30 days. Feed mainly on small fish, but do take frogs, insects and crustaceans. |
