LILAC
BREASTED ROLLER Coracias caudata This is one of the most beautiful birds in the area and is commonly seen perched on the top of dead trees or bushes from where it scans the ground for prey. They will mainly feed on small lizards, locusts and grasshoppers. The population does tend to increase in the summer months but decreases during the winter. They have 7 different colours on the body. They will breed from September to December and will use a hole in a tree, sometimes old barbet or woodpecker holes. It is not known how long the bird incubates the eggs for.
