BROWN
HOODED KINGFISHER Halcyon albiventris They are more than likely the best known of the kingfishers and can be seen perching on the end of branches scanning the branch for food. They do not feed on fish but eat mainly insects and lizards and sometimes young of other birds. Males can be told from females by the black feathers on the shoulder, the females being brown. They have a call which can be interpreted as saying 'pity for me'. They will breed in holes in trees or banks, from September to November with the female incubating about 14 days.
