Hooded Vulture Necrosyrtes monachus

They are found in Southern Africa but do not occure in forests or dry arid areas like South West Africa. They are either a common resident or are rare in areas. They prefer open woodland areas and savannah and are lowest in the vulture pecking order. They will be found breeding from June to August, with both sexes sharing the incubation of upto 58 days. The chick will be dependent on the parents for around 7 months after fledging. Their main diet is carrion, bones, insects and sometimes the dung of predators.
