EGYPTIAN
GOOSE Alopochen aegyptiacus They used to be called the Large Spotted goose, due to a large dark dot on the chest. The bird was viewed as being sacred by the ancient Egyptians. Pairs of these birds are known to remain together for long and lasting periods. They have a very noisy and harsh call and are often heard threatening any other Egyptian geese who venture to close to their area. They feed on grass. They will breed at any time of year, using nests of other birds and sometimes on rock faces. The female will incubate from 28-30 days.
