HORNBILL Bucorvus leadbeateri They are often called a Turkey Buzzard. They are one of the longest lived birds in southern Africa reaching ages of up to 65 years of age. They have a territory of 100km squared which they patrol on foot. They have very strong bills and are known to peck tortoises out of their shells. They feed on any animal small enough to tackle and have been known to kill snakes when acting in a group. They breed in large holes in trees, with females incubating for roughly 40 days, mainly from September to November.
