WAHLBERG'S EAGLE Aquila wahlbergibird_tawnyeagle2.jpg (52259 bytes)

This is more than likely the most common eagle seen in Africa. They have a fairly small area, (7000 ha), which they defend as their territory. They are usually only found in the Djuma area during the summer months, but where the birds migrate to during winter is still unknown. They are one of the few southern African raptors which breed during the summer months, from September to October. They nest in large trees, returning to the same nest each year. Females usually only lay 1 egg, sometimes 2 and will incubate from 43-46 days.
