Dwarf Bittern Ixobrochus sturmii
They can be found in Africa South of the Sahara, considered to be uncommon to rare in places. They are a breeding migrant to Southern Africa from equatorial regions of Africa. They are normally found around pans, reedbeds, rivers, streams, or any water with branches for perching near the water surface. They are usually found alone and will breed from December to March with incubation lasting from 18-26 days. They will eat frogs and fish as their main diet. |
