Crowned Plover Vanellus coronatus
They are found in South and East Africa and are found all over Southern Africa. They are a common resident throughout their range, found from suburbia and playing fields, to burnt veld and short grassland. They are normally found in small groups but have been recorded upto as many as 40 birds. They will breed between, mainly July to March, and vigorously attack any intruders, by dive bombing them. Both sexes incubate the eggs, lasting up to 32 days. Feeding on earthworms and insects |
