Cape Vulture Gyps coprotheres
They are probably the heaviest vulture in the area and are mostly found around mountainous areas. They are often found with other Cape Vultures, especially if near the nest. They are considered to be locally common but have been hard hit by poisoning from farmers and death by crashing into power lines. The breed during April to July with both sexes sharing the incubating which may last upto 58 days. They eat carrion and bone fragments. |
