Black Crake Amauronis flavorostris

They can be found all over Southern Africa but are absent from the drier western regions and are common in their range. They can be found in back waters of rivers lakes, dams or pans with reeds on their banks. They are usually found in Pairs or small groups and are not as shy as other members of their family. They breed from October to March incubation is upto 19 days. They feed on small fish, insects, and heron's eggs and have been recorded eating small birds caught in mist nets.
