Blackbreasted Snake Eagle Circaetus pectoralis
They are usually found alone but have been seen in flocks of upto 200 birds, out of the breeding season. They are the only eagles, which attempts to hover, doing so while hunting. They are said to be able to spot prey from 1 000ft up. They breed during the months of July through to August. The female does the incubating which lasts for around 52 days. The chick will rely on its parent for upto 6 months after fledging. Their main diet is snakes of various species and have also been recorded taking fish, insects and small rodents. |
