Threebanded Plover Charadrius tricoloaris

They are a small plover, having 2 distinct black breast bands, either side of a white band, which is the diagnostic feature for this bird.

They are found in Madagascar, East Africa and all over Southern Africa. They are considered common within their range and are found all year round, normally in pairs when breeding, but have been recorded in flock's upto 40. They will breed between April and January. Incubation is done by both parents for upto 30 days. They feed mainly on insects, crabs and worms.
