Basil and his toga entourage! 12 October 1999. We aim to please at Djuma and so it was the Landau party. Basil Landau celebrated his seventieth birthday at Djuma Game Reserve. They reserved the whole of Bush Lodge and had themselves a whale of a time, or is it "an elephant of a time"? The Djuma team gave their best and treated the Landau party to a bush breakfast (a surprise arrival at a sumptuous breakfast in bush at the end of the game drive), a bush braai (same, but at night). On their last night they thought they had done it all, but there was a surprise in store! When they arrived in their chalets after the evening game drive they were greeted by scroll on the bed. The scroll read: ATTENTIONUS CIVES The year is 1999AC and Campus Bush Lodgeus is entirely occupied by Emperor Basilicus Stockexchangus and his party…. holding forth against wild and savage beasts. It is not easy for these revellers and hence the Emperor would like to appease and indulge his guests with the finest of wines and foods to be found in these nether regions You are demanded to attend the Forum Bomarus on the occasion of the Emperors’ coming of great age and wisdom…suitably attired in your finest toga. You will be ably escorted past danger from the lurking beasts by a trustworthy sentry and will await the arrival of Emperor Basilicus in the Forum. An indulgent orgy of wine, food and song follows… Your sentry will come for you at 7:30pm. Much fun was had by all! Jurie Moolman |
